This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for…the Catalogue API solution for Shopzilla’s UK Publisher Program has now been released! After great success over the last few years in the US,  the API is now available this side of the pond for our UK publishers.

In addition to our FTP Data Feeds, we are now proud to offer the Catalogue API as part of some great affiliate products, all designed to help our Publishers maximise revenues from their websites. If you’re unsure as to what the API means, read on…

What’s great about the API?

  • It enables affiliates to dynamically retrieve product results from the Bizrate catalogue which means no manual updating.
  • You can request shopping content data related to catalogued products and merchant offers, categories, brands and merchants.
  • It’s a query based web service which allows Publishers to filter based on their site’s shopping content needs.

Why choose an API solution?

  • Added user value - your visitors get a great experience by being able to browse and compare a variety of products and offers supplied by a variety of merchants.
  • You have access to Bizrate’s entire shopping inventory - millions of products within reach, accumulating to provide fantastic shopping content.

Why You Should Avoid Automated Blogging

Think outside the box for unique content

Think outside the box for unique content

Blogging is a great way to record your thoughts and share opinions with people from around the world. It is a form of wide-scale communication which has the power to build communities and increase consumer knowlegde. If you own your own blog, you own a powerful communication tool - visitors come to your site to read your personal point of view, which is why you should always try and keep your content fresh and original.

A phenomena called Automated Blogging which pulls content via RSS feeds from various other blogs has often been implemented as a good option to ‘real’ writing. However, the Shopzilla team feels that although this may cut down the amount of time that you spend on the internet, a blog needs unique content to drive visitors and to keep hold of the loyal ones. Automated Blogging may end up damaging your site’s reputation. Your users will start to recognise the fact that you haven’t done your own research and if the primary reason for exploring your site is to get a real opinion on a product, event, service etc, why should they come to your blog when they can go and find true, personal posts elsewhere?

Make your site unique and stand out from the crowd - this is a great tip but often is the case where writer’s block may set in. If you sometimes struggle to come up with fresh content, take a look at our post on Overcoming Writer’s Block.  Avoiding automated blogging and providing orginal articles is what tends to bring in the higher revenues and is what the best writers do - they have their own ideas and form established user bases on their own back, using unique content.

Here at Shopzilla, we focus very strongly on content-related advertising and like our Publishers to have established websites, integrating shopping content that matches with the website’s theme.  If your visitor numbers are high and these are people who are really interested in what you have to say, you should see some good results through the Shopzilla UK Publisher Program.

Why not sign up today and give it a go - reward all that effort you put into creating your content by monetising your site through us.

If you have any questions, please have a look at the Publisher Blog or contact us directly.

Payment information needed in order to get paid

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Just successfully activated your Shopzilla Publisher account and eager to start earning money? That’s great and you can start earning revenue immediately by choosing your ad from a large selection of shopping content and pasting the HTML code onto your site, it’s that simple.

We do encourage you  not to forget to enter your payment information sooner rather than later.  As we don’t ask for this information during the registration process, we know from experience that people tend to forget to enter these.  It’s important because we wouldn’t know where  and who to send the money to.

When trying to enter your payment information as the first thing you do on the portal, you may find that the  button “Enter your payment details” in the account section will be missing which makes it impossible to enter any payment information. This is not a technical issue on our portal.  Note: It may take 20-30 minutes from the time of your account activation for us to fully complete your account processing and enable you to enter your payment information. After this short time, you won’t encounter this problem anymore.

In the meantime, please don’t worry and feel free to start exploring our different banners and searchboxes.

Once your account is fully activated, the “Payment Information” section is fully loaded and you will be able to see the green “Add Payment Info” button.

If you have any other questions regarding the payment process please check out our dedicated payments & reporting section on the blog. You can also always contact us, if there are any questions.

Cash in on summer traffic with our summer ads!*

Cash in on summer traffic with our summer ads!*

Hi Publishers!

Summer is approaching fast and it’s high time to start updating your site to cash in on benefits of seasonal traffic! If you are new to the affiliate marketing world here are few tips on how to improve your summer rankings and make money online:

1. Update your content using seasonal keywords - write a post about summer cycling holiday (for all those cycling clubs out there) or create a page dedicated to summer activities with kids (parenting sites) - whatever the topic, make sure it’s relevant to your site!

2. Make the current economical climate work to your advantage - target the users interested in budgeting this summer. Think of creating unique offering: list of cheap/ free things to do, places to go etc. See last year’s article from My Kind Of Mom - it’s a really good example of targeting local audience.

3. Customize your ads - displaying advertisement relevant to your content increases chances of converting your website’s users into shoppers! To cater to the demand for holiday related advertisement we created new range of  Stock Assets: Summer Holiday, On a Bike and Travel the World. You can find these in Stock Assets by Theme section of Get Content.

Good luck Publishers and we wish you record-breaking summer!

Generating Clicks but Not Revenue

Generating clicks but Not revenue

Generating clicks but NOT revenue

Looking at your reports you might have wondered why you have generated a lot of clicks, but you don’t see any revenue generated.

Being an affiliate using the Shopzilla Publisher Program, you make money online on a per-click basis. However, if your website visitors click on a Shopzilla ad on your website, but then, do not click on a product listed on a Shopzilla site, Shopzilla does not pay affiliates for those clicks. While this may occur from time-to-time, we encourage you consider your ‘effective Earnings per Click’ (eCPC) based on a meaningful sample of click activity (such as 500 – 1000 clicks).

Revenue generating activity occurs when the users you refer to Shopzilla redirect from product offer listings to the online retailer listing those product offers.

How does the Shopzilla Publisher UK Program work?

In order to help our publishers understand how the program works, we have illustrated the steps involved in generating earnings - the important part!

How do publishers make money?

How do publishers make money?

1. You place Shopzilla Publisher UK Program banners or links on your website. A visitor comes to your website, sees a product they would like to compare prices on.
2. They click on one of the Shopzilla Publisher UK Program banners or links (*on your Portal report, this represents a ‘click’). This takes them to BizRate, our sister website, where they see a list of relevant products and prices.
3. Once they decide which product suits them best, they click on a link that takes them through to the website of the Merchant selling that product.
4. The Merchant pays Shopzilla for valid, CPC-monetized leads and celebrates the sale of a product from the quality traffic you, the Publisher, sent to their website.
5. Shopzilla shares the revenue generated from this quality traffic with you, the Publisher.* Now YOU celebrate!

Should you have any questions, please post a comment since another Publisher may be wondering something similar. The Shopzilla Publisher Team will be sure to reply.

* All publisher earnings are subject to validation and adjustments. Portal reported earnings should only be considered as an estimate. Publishers should consult the Shopzilla, Inc. Publisher Program Terms & Conditions for more information.
