Can Affiliate Marketing be ethical?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
Getting the balance right can often be hard

Getting the balance right can often be hard

The answer is yes, of course it can. But it is up to you as the Publisher to ensure it.

There are thousands if not millions of people out there who have jumped onto the affiliate marketing rollercoaster  in the last 10 years since internet businesses really launched themselves into society. In recent years that figure has boomed as affiliate marketing and online monetisation techniques have become ever more popular.

However, discussions about the ethics of this particular marketing medium have sparked debates across the world as to how ethical can affiliate marketing really be.

Here we provide some guidelines if you want to make sure you’re doing you’re bit for consumers:

1. Make sure you place contextually relevant ads - match the banners to your content to give your consumers a valued experience.

2. Keep your content true to form - don’t just write an article to promote a specific product, ensure the piece is in keeping with what you would normally write about.

3.  Be honest and advertise only the products you yourself would potentially buy.

4. Do some research on the ad networks/Publisher programs you wish to join before signing up - this will give you an insight into the various offers.

The Shopzilla UK Publisher program encourages publishers to integrate contextually relevant shopping content on your websites. This not only enhances your readers’ experiences (which is what we all strive for in the long-run) but also highly increases the likelihood that those visitors will click on your ads, making you more money in the long run.  Our great choice of inventory makes it really easy for you to find any product you can think of, which in turn gives you complete control over the content you place on your site.

A4U Forum - C U There!

Monday, August 24th, 2009

The A4U expo website is a social networking site designed to keep you up-to-date first hand with all the news and events happening in the Affiliate Marketing world.

Affiliates 4U - THE place to network

With hundreds of members already on board, the forum reunites affiliates and merchants alike and provides a gateway to the current hot AM debates.

This forum has long been established and we here at the Shopzilla Publisher team have been a member since earlier this year when our affiliate program launched.

On the main page you’ll see some of the most recent Forum and Blog posts.  To begin, create your own profile and then click on the “Forum” tab at the top. This will bring you to the buzz of the site -  there are many different threads and posts going on here at the same time, it’s just a case of browsing and selecting the threads which interest you.

The best way to get yourself seen and heard on this social networking site is to read the various articles in your chosen field and contribute to posts which have been insightful/offered an interesting slant to the way affiliate marketing works. Of course, you’re also allowed to express your opinions, whether you agree or not with an author’s article.

The UK Shopzilla Publisher program regularly surfs and contributes to these online discussions and would encourage all of our Publishers to do the same.

You can find us under Shopzilla Ltd in the “Users” search category.

Keep up with our threads and use it as an alternative tool to reach us if you have any questions regarding the Publisher program!

Dynamic assets: Build your very own banner!

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Shopzilla Europe are pleased to announce the launch of dynamic assets. Now you can build your own, individual ads.

Within the portal of our affiliate program you are now able to build dynamic assets based on top keyword or category search results, as well as build comparison shopping assets for specific products.  These dynamic assets refresh their content each time your website page is loaded, offering your users a fresh shopping experience each time they visit your website.

Build your very own banner with Shopzilla's dynamic assets

Here a few highlights of what this feature include:

1) Publishers are now able to create dynamic assets based solely on category.  This will allow the creation of more generic dynamic assets.  An example of a good use of this sort of dynamic asset would be a placement on a fashion website.  Rather than displaying products defined by a keyword, you will now be able to create a dynamic asset displaying results according to product popularity in a chosen category. This means you will always have the hottest items in your banner.

2) Why not be more specific and create a ‘Product Pod‘ with the dynamic asset within certain categories? This feature allows you to add a comparison shopping experience to your site. However please note that the function of a ‘Product Pod’ asset is to allow for a comparison shopping experience, so you may find instances of a category not retrieving any results if we can’t offer any price comparison for the particular product you have chosen.  This is because there aren’t any available products with multiple offers aligned to them that would support a comparison shopping experience.  (For instance, we don’t have any products in the category “Candles & Home Scent” that have multiple offers aligned to them …I know, seems crazy…so, sadly, you won’t be able to build a ‘Product Pods’ asset for your favourite  vanilla scented candles, as the same candle isn’t necessarily sold by more than one merchant, although we have a great choice of vanilla scented candles.  But you will be able to build one for your favourite mp3 player or laptop.) Best thing to do is to check on BizRate first, whether the product you want to promote has a  “Go compare” site.

3) Another nice element of the dynamic content is that you are in control over the appearance of the ad you want to place on your website. This means you are pretty much the designer of you own banner. Choose the colours that best match your site.
To create a dynamic asset, log into the UK Shopzilla Publisher Portal and choose the ‘Get Content’ tab. From here you will find a “Dynamic Assets” link. If you need any help creating these assets, please Contact us.

Enjoy!

Review of Shopzilla’s Publisher Program

Monday, March 30th, 2009

va4business.com have recently written a review of our US Shopzilla Publisher Program. The review was written by Steve Arun, one of the US Shopzilla Publishers who gives many accurate descriptions of the Shopzilla Publisher Program through his feedback. The UK Shopzilla Publisher Program has just been launched, but this is basically what direction we would like to go:

“In conclusion, I’d say that this program is worth checking out. It does not hurt to start a campaign and see where it will take you because like millions of Publishers out there, they certainly found the results they desired, so perhaps it is your turn to reap the rewards!”

In order to get an in-depth knowledge about Shopzilla’s Publisher Program, we strongly recommend any potential publishers to have a look at Steve’s great review on va4business.com.
