Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

We are excited to announce that Shopzilla has refreshed its sister site BizRate.co.uk and given it a makeover.

BizRate relauch - quick and easy price comparison

BizRate Relaunch: quick and easy price comparison

You will notice that the pages look cleaner but the main improvement is really that it the site is now a lot faster. This means you will find what you are looking for a lot quicker which will make home shopping even more convenient. Besides the speed, the re-launched BizRate site has been given a more consistent looks and feel. This makes it much easier to navigate and find the product you are looking for in no time.

As the banners and links of the Publisher Program are powered by BizRate UK, this change brings along benefits to you as Publisher, too. People clicking on of your Shopzilla Publisher banners will have a much better shopping experience which hopefully leads to better results for you.  It’s a win-win situation for everyone  involved: We are happy that we are doing even a better job in enabling shoppers to quickly and easily find, compare and buy any product they are looking for. Of course this makes our  shoppers happy. And with people liking the BizRate site and getting into the shopping mood, your shopping hints will  pay out for you, too.  With our fast refreshed site you should be earning more though the Publisher Program.

Please have a look yourself and see the difference. We also appreciate your feedback. Tell us about how you like the new BizRate.

How many ads are too many?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

If you are new to affiliate marketing you are probably asking yourself questions about how to make the most of your adverts?

Many believe that the answer is in sheer volume: “if you have enough banners on your site, someone must finally click on at least one?”. At Shopzilla Publisher UK, we don’t restrict the number of adverts you can place on your webpage, but we actively encourage our Publishers to optimize their ads thus limiting the displayed ads to the best performing ones!

Here are a few tips you might find helpful:

  • Remember, “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander” is not always true when it comes to advertising so test different formats of the ads and find out what works best for you! How? With the use of ID-placements.
  • Try to “refresh” your banners ever so often. (It’s particularly important with static banners!). This way you have the opportunity to convert your returning visitors!
  • If you want to maximize the possibility of a click, think of embedding text links in your text. Using text links enables you to turn every reference to a product into revenue opportunity! Read more about how to use the Publisher program for custom text links.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact us using the contact form.

Example of a Shopzilla Publisher US dynamic asset

Shopzilla Publisher Teamhas worked hard to deliver you a top of the range product thus enabling you to become successful Publishers. That’s why we have been investing a lot of our time and resources in developing a new feature: dynamic assets.

What’s so special about them?

1. As the name says, the ads are ‘dynamic’ - the offers you display change just as offers on BizRate do. This way you never risk linking to a product that’s no longer available!

2. Dynamic assets feature will enable you to populate the ads with products you choose - you build dynamic assets based on top keyword or category search results, or build comparison shopping assets for specific products.

3. You can choose the length of your creative - if you are an experienced affiliate marketer, you probably know that sometimes short description works better; in other cases long creative, including more details, will be more attractive to your readers/customers. Our new type of ads give you best of both words, with the choice of ads with long or short descriptions!

4. Customize your assets to complement your website’s design -  you will have the full control over the appearance of your dynamic ads: from the background colour to the link colours before they’re clicked, when they’re clicked and when you’re thinking about clicking them. And more!

Are you excited? We certainly are!!

So now the big question - when can our Publishers expect this new feature to be available? Well, it will be available on 7th July and onwards.

Apply for Shopzilla XML data feed!

Apply for Shopzilla XML data feed!

If you are an experienced affiliate marketer and e-commerce is your daily bread think about utilizing our XML based FTP-data feed product! Shopzilla Publisher Program is offering a powerful tool enabling our e-commerce publishers to download BizRate.co.uk inventory (partly or whole) from one ftp location and display it on their own websites.

What do you need to do?

1. Consult your website developers. Incorporating XML feed takes some development effort - make sure that your website fulfils the requirements!

2. Apply for FTP-data feed product. Log in to your account and go to Data Feeds tab. Try to describe as well as possible how you will use our feed - this will speed up the assessment process.

3. Once we have accepted your application we will send you Shopzilla Mutual Nondisclosure Agreement - make sure you sign it and return it!

4. Once the paper work is out of your way and you have received your access key you can access our ftp location and test the feed.

Pretty straight forward, isn’t it? And remember, if you have any questions, contact Shopzilla Publisher Team!

A4uexpo recap – Affiliate Marketing conference & exhibition Europe 2009

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

We are back in London after a great a4uexpo in Amsterdam.  With interesting sessions, a great exhibition space, and the chance to meet and build relationships with other affiliates and potential partners, the conference had a lot to offer. As there were nearly 1000 attendants from all over Europe from dozens of countries, it truly was a pan-European conference. For us, the event was an excellent opportunity to meet some of our current publishers as well as giving many potential publishers information about our program.

We’re looking forward to the next conference in London later this year. Everyone working in or around the affiliate marketing industry should already book October 13th &14th in their calendar for the a4uexpo London. It’s the third year the conference & exhibition will take place at ExCel London.

Also, a special thanks to Matthew Wood (founder of the a4uexpo) for reaching out to Shopzilla to present at one of the conference sessions.  Jason gave a presentation about XML and product data feed standardisation to a packed audience; there were some great questions at the end and the presentation was met with positive feedback.  While the presentation was aimed at merchants, we’re happy to spread the word about data standardisation and share our best-practices.

In addition to soaking up the affiliate marketing world’s atmosphere, we also had a little fun in Amsterdam.  Pictured below are Shopzilla’s Jason Hall and Diana Scharpenberg at one of the a4u networking parties.

Interested what was tweeted about the conference, have a look at twitter.
